DIY Egg Art - Make & Measure Perfect Circles on an Egg Using a Suction Cup as a Template
The Rhea egg is large like the Emu egg. Excellent for eating and baking. They produce during May through September/October.
Perfect! I obtained an ostrich egg shell and wanted to see how to prepare it for pysanka. It is so massive and shiny and I know that’s not conductive for dying it properly.
I’m a new egg writer and appreciate the “add” because I really had a hard time finding supplies. I went ahead and bought that dye collection because I just love the idea of having all those colors and shades to play with.
What a transformation! So beautiful! Thank You for sharing. I would love to try this art.
I have guinea fowl and their eggs are like the bobtail quail eggs but bigger, about half the size of a chicken egg. I have chickens with a variety of chickens that lay eggs of every color. Blue, green, cream, dark brown and white. I also have ducks and their eggs are super smooth. I just started my pysanky journey and I’m exited to try with all of the colors available to me
Massive ad-read, but very useful!
Très astucieux !!!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have more duck eggs than I need, so I’m going to spend the summer making egg ornaments with my granddaughters! Thank you for sharing!!
Can’t wait to watch you design the rest, thank you for teaching us and supporting the Ukraine
Thank you! This was the best tutorial for beginners!
gorgeous
❤
In real I enjoy doing Pysanka eggs but this I would go blind
Thank you for your wonderful teaching It is truly an inspiration to see you work. I can't wait to start.
So beautiful! Amazing Ukrainian culture
beautiful, love it🌳💌, my grandma waved the 4 season carpet. such a sweet memory, thank you🌺 dear🌺
It's just soooo beautiful 🥹❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
where did you get your kistka from please?
Phenomenal video
Lori you are such a good teacher. Do you have any tips on keeping your hands steady so the lines are straighter?
Needs to be closer when filming.
How did you keep wax on egg when etching? My wax peels off.
This is my cousin and she is amazingly talented. ❤
Do you repair eggs for other people? i have an egg that has great sentimental value to me and it was crushed. with multiple cracks and broken pieces. i would love to see if there is someone that does this type of work for hire.
No, I don't do repairs, sorry. Linda Hupert shows us how it can be done.
Thank you Lorrie for getting back to me. If you know of anyone else that may do the repairs, i am afraid that i do not have the patience or skills to restore it. i did watch the video above. Barb
Hi Bararah, I sent Linda Hupert a message, however at the time she is out of town and will return in a few days. She said, she'd need to see how much damage there is to your egg. And, you can contact her at, planetegg@yahoo.com. Hopefully, Linda can be of help.
Thank you so much for trying to help me find someone. i will send her an email and send her pictures. . Barbara
How can I get an AlCraft lathe…I tried calling them on the phone that is on their website and it’s disconnected and you can’t seem to order one on their website. Does anyone have one to sell?
I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to connect with Alcraft. I would suggest a search on egg lathes.
Hello what is the wax pen called that you are using? Thank you for the video
The pen is called a kistka. You can find the traditional kistka or the electric kistka by doing a search for kistka.
Thank you for such a detailed video
And, thank you for watching my videos.
I purchased the lathe you show in the start of this video and the egg will not stay put because ONE side of the lathe will not stay in place. I find this very, very irritating and a waste of funds I despise losing eggs trying to use this thing.
Would a reptile egg make much of a difference
I don't know. I haven't held a reptile egg and don't know if it's like a chicken egg shell or more of the leathery type shells. However, I'd first find out if in my area it's allowed to use such eggs. I know there are many bird eggs that can't be used for such things.
Thank you for sharing. We were gifted a few emu eggs. One of the shells is displayed on our science shelf, but I was at a loss of what to do with the others. This looks like fun!
Amber thank you for watching my video. Etching the eggs is fun, but also it takes time for the etching. If you can practice on one.
Praise the lord thank you for such a wonderful video!
Absolutely gorgeous! ❤️
Laurie, thank your for watching my videos, and for your kindness.

wow. So relaxing. Reminds me of staying home from school and just vegging out on the couch to listen to Bob Ross :)

I wonder if anyone makes these specific Easter eggs to tell the legend of the easter eggs in children's litergy?
There's Rechenka's Eggs by Patricia Polacco, and I'm sure there are others.
@@LorriePopow I must confess I don’t know that one, but I am familiar with the godly play legend of the Easter eggs (American episcopalian priest by training and author, Jerome Berryman). They take a Bible story from the crucifixion and cleverly mix it with the tradition of Easter eggs from Eastern Europe and they use Ukrainian Easter eggs in their resources. The story is very clever and very deep how it’s done. And that’s how I came onto UA-cam channels to learn about how to make them to have my own resources.
I am writing my very first Ukrainian Easter egg. It's currently in its last (blue) colour dye. Then using candle and kitchen paper will melt away the wax. Not expecting perfection, it's still got the egg inside. Interesting hobby. I might now be able to tell the legend of the Easter eggs in church soon, or at least A legend.
I love your presentation, the time you give us , and the amazing eggs
Eva, thank you for your kind words, and thank you for watching my videos.
That’s beautiful mam. You have great talent …God Bless you !
God Bless You too, and thank you for your kind words and for watching my videos.
How are you applying the wax? And what type of wax is be used?
I use a tool called a kistka. You can buy these from Ukrainian Eggcessories, Ukrainian Gift Shop, and many times on ebay. The wax I used, I made from beeswax that can be bought from the already mentioned stores, and color block white from Candlewic. The white wax can also be made with white Crayola. Depending how white you want the wax depends on how much of the dye block is melted with the beeswax. It doesn't take much to change the color of the beeswax. Thank you for watching my videos.
@@LorriePopow thank you so much for answering, your work is beautiful and your kindness is greatly appreciated 😀
Hello! Do you take the inside bits out of the egg?
There are artists that don't drain their eggs, I live in an area that is humid and the insides of larger eggs like chicken eggs don't fully dry, and can cause the egg to leak or explode. So, yes I empty all of my eggs.
This woman looks like the actress from _Handmaid's Tale_ and _Drew Berrymore_ had a baby.
Its funny we scan for information vs reading throughly! Yes it does, but if i hadnt read the comments i too would would of note that! It obvious that the lady ws using suction cups. But remember that suction cup on the compound surface of the egg is not a really true circle on the surface its approximate. We perceive its round because you see its round. Folks shold do a little descriptive geometry to understand lines generated by a section on a solid or surface. Also about proptional dividing. This is all vey eay stuff if your not visually mentally.
Steven - the Ukrainian egg art known as pysanky is a folk art. Folk art is the art of everyday people. We are not concerned with geometric parameters such as ovum maximum breadth or shift of the vertical axis to construct a mathematical model. Instead of using derivatives and equations, we use a simple suction cup to create a nice circular design on an egg. Remember that in art, there is much beauty in simplicity.
Are the eggs being boiled prior to this or jus like fresh eggs?
I've never boiled the eggs for my artwork. I have used full/undrained eggs, but prefer to use drained eggs.
How do you dye the eggs?
Instead of white gesso you can use white watercolor ground, it will absorb the color. I believe there’s a few diy recipes here on UA-cam somewhere also.
Thank you Laurie and Carolyn for sharing such a simple idea!
This is so cool! I have a metal lathe and an indexer for clock making. Can't wait to apply some of this. 👍
Thank you for watching.
